Just to make sure you don’t forget.

While the first headlines regarding the concerning news brought to light by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) start to fade away, we as Clean Tech Delta take it upon ourselves to remind you of the significance and impact of the report. The Paris climate agreement set the initial target of limiting global warming to a maximum temperature increase of 2°C above pre-industrial temperatures. However, the UPCC report brought new concerns to light, mainly evolving what it would take to keep this limit at 1.5°C and what the consequences would be when this is not achieved. Here is what you need to know:

Main concerns described in the report covered the impact a temperature increase above 1.5°C would have on weather conditions and the consequences that would have on society. Some of the most noticeable consequences are:

  • Increase of intense weather circumstances (e.g. floods, heatwaves and droughts)
  • Total loss of coral reefs (and with that, a 25% loss of marine species)
  • Crop failure
  • Problems with water supply
  • Uncertain livelihoods
  • Poverty
  • Problems with economic growth

Given the significance of the problems listed above it becomes evident countries must cooperate in order to keep global warming at a  1.5°C limit. As mentioned in the IPCC report, the best solution in doing so: Cut as much carbon pollution as possible, as fast as possible.
