TNO recently published a position paper “The economy after the Corona vaccine: How The Netherlands can innovate its way out of the crisis,” in which they argue that investing in research and innovation will help the economy recover after a vaccine for the Coronavirus has been found. According to TNO, investing in research and innovation will lead to greater labour productivity which in turn supports economic recovery.
Germany has proven to be successful with this method, structurally increasing investments in innovation during and after the crisis of 2008, which likely contributed to the rapid economic recovery and growth of Germany after the crisis. TNO recommends the same will be done in The Netherlands right now, so we can ‘innovate our way out of the crisis’.
