The monthly Day@theCampus on the 1st of March was all about collaborations between startups and corporates in the energy domain. On this Day@theCampus startup founders, investors, students and corporate innovation professionals came together to meet and share thoughts.

Startup / Corporate Speeddating

After a busy lunch Jurgen Nieuwenhuijsen (ECE) and Erwin Koenraads (Get in the Ring Global) kicked off the startup corporate speeddating sessions by explaining the goal, connecting startups with corporates to innovate faster together. Through dating sessions of 10 minutes the startups and corporates are enabled to ‘test the water’ whether there are possibilities to work together or not. As a result the participating corporates came in contact with 8-12 new startups each in only 3 hours.

The participating corporates on the speeddates included Akzo Nobel, Oracle, Eneco, Port of Rotterdam, ROAD2020 (consortium of Engie and E.On), Cofely, EY and ING. A full dating area where ideas were shared and follow up meetings were planned. Both winners of the Dutch finals of Get in the Ring: Nettcity and BlueBattery were both participating at the speeddating sessions and were actively matched with interesting corporates.

The startup / corporate speeddates are an initiative by Get in the Ring and EY and were organized by ECE. The online self-seating system NetworkTables.com was used to help participants set their own agenda and meet the right people. Through Networktables all participants were enabled to connect with the people they felt they had a match during the event.

Workshop Startup & Corporate Collaboration

While the last thoughts were shared in the speeddating area, the first attendees for the workshops were arriving. During the workshop Elmer de Boer highlighted the way how Eneco works together with startups and shared his experiences about the dos and don’ts of startup & corporate collaboration. ‘Innovate or die’ was the motto of Elmer’s talk. The way Eneco innovates is by actively seeking collaborations with startups, “but not just for the sake of starting new ventures” says Elmer. When startups have proven their solution in the market and are able to offer a unique proposition, Eneco is open to see whether they can find a common rationale. Especially in the field of Solar, Mobility and One Planet Heating Eneco is actively seeking startups to build new products and services with.

How To Get There Summit

The speeddating sessions and the workshop were part of How To Get There. How To Get There is a movement aimed to stimulate collaborations between startups & corporates. Join this movement to innovate faster together. Meetups are organized throughout the Netherlands by ECE and multiple StartupDelta partners filled with startup/corporate speeddating sessions, startup pitching nights, dinner tables and workshops to bring the world of corporate innovation managers and startup founders closer together. The movement will come together once a year at the How To Get There Summit (17 November 2016). Join the movement and visit the meetups via this link.

Day@theCampus – April 5

The Day@theCampus is a monthly event organized by ECE where startups get the chance to work in an inspiring environment, to have lunch with a wide network of entrepreneurs located at the campus, to walk by ING for financial advice, to follow a workshop and to date with interesting people.

The next Day@theCampus will take place on the 5th of April and is focused on Circular Economy. The day offers an open podium for initiatives and sessions on circular economy. We will bring together a mix of circulair economy entrepreneurs from the Rotterdam Innovation District, startups that showcase new innovations in cleantech, internet of things, waste-to-energy and smart manufacturing, and a network of experts and corporates that can contribute to these startups by their network and knowledge.

Please RSVP via our event page on meetup.com.
