The UN’s new 17 global sustainability goals mean local challenges and here is neither a lack of will or initiative in Malmö to achieve them. Between the 30th November  –  2nd December 2016, Malmö municipality is organising an international conference on how cities can work with global development and how we have made the UN’s goals our own on the road to a sustainable city.

The programme for the conference is formed from nine different tracks and will be introduced by inspiring keynote speakers. Through concrete experiences, examples and research, discussions and reflections, you can get ideas on how cities can work towards the global sustainability goals and make them their own. The conference is intended for those working in the public and private sectors, academia and civil society.

The Sustainable City Development Conference 2016 is part of the international SBE series of conferences focusing on a sustainable built environment. It will be a meeting point for researchers and practitioners as we believe that there is high potential to discuss and co-create new ideas and solutions. The conference is therefore welcoming academic papers. There will also be exhibitors on site with inspirational examples.
Malmö municipality has over the last 20 years organised ten international conferences and major events on sustainable urban development, including four Sustainable City Development Conferences, in 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007.
