“How can different parties (including the government and social partners), better respond to the transition to a circular economy”. The ministry poses this question to the SER for the program “circular economy” that will start soon. For this program, active involvement from either business, employees and societal organizations are essential for the transition towards the circular economy.

To answer this question, the SER started her advice by developing a vision. This vision is based on the fact that the necessity is big to transform our current economy into one that is based on circularity. The expectation is that the demand for raw materials will exceed the supply, causing resource depletion, pressure on the environment, geopolitical tension and risk for regional and national economies. In the advisory document, the SER introduced the “multi-track approach”. Everything about this approach can be read in the full document. Furthermore, they advice to invest intensively in the circulair economy, as the Netherlands are highly resource dependent. Finally, to the opinion of SER, the circular economy could lead to the preservation and creation of employment of all levels of education and thereby boost the economy.
