On the 27th of June, a meet innovators session, organised by Clean Tech Delta, took place. CTD establishes the innovation themes and potential gaps with the company and invites innovators to present in a pitch format. At Vopak three innovators from the Clean Tech Delta network were brought to the stage: Green Leap, CarbonOro and Semioticlabs with solutions for environmental sensing, predictive maintenance and carbon usage. Proof of the keen interest of Vopak in innovation themes like digital for excellence was the presence of the entire executive team and the digital and operations leads.

Leap Craft
This start-up from Copenhagen, offers sensing as a service for environmental data collection – with bespoke hardware and integrated cloud analytics. Leapcraft offers a relatively low cost, but high quality environmental sensor in a full service package. Furthermore, the product can be installed in less than an hour and can measure a range of gases and particles like CO2, CO, NOx, SOx and PM2.5, PM10 etc with matched pattern recognition and anomaly detection. Vopak was rather interested in their technology and a second meeting will be planned soon.

Semioticlabs
Semiotic Labs offers real time monitoring for ac induction motors and rotating equipment based on proprietary sensors and artificial intelligence. Their Smart Condition Monitoring solution detects upcoming failures at an early stage and predicts when and why it’ll lead to failure, allowing clients to schedule maintenance before breakdowns occur. The technology drastically improves the lifetime of assets and reduces excess energy waste by calculating the energy efficiency of motors. Semiotic Labs is currently running a pilot at Vopak. Together, they are looking to expand the scope to a project in Asia.
CarbonOro
CarbonOrO captures carbon dioxide with a bespoke amine solution. Capture costs can be reduced with up to 50% in comparison with existing installations due to energy efficiencies and the use of residual heat. CarbonOrO offers containerised systems that can be applied for: upgrading biogas to biomethane, CO2 production from flue gasses or Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). CarbonOrO is now looking to explore carbon capture on ships. As Vopak is becoming more and more future oriented, they think this technology is highly interesting. Vopaks suggest to explore this opportunity jointly with the Port of Rotterdam
